Love Poems for Married People by John Kenney

3.0

At first I was like, um, well, I'm not sure I'm the right kind of married person for this. Maybe this book is really Love Poems for Married People Who Have Kids and Argue a Lot. Then I came upon a poem about trying to tell a story, with the lines, "Like smoke, I added, needlessly, / looking at you, because I was telling it. / Even though you were telling it first." And I was like, OMG YOU ARE SEEING INTO MY LIFE EVERY DAY. Also an excellent poem about the frustrations of putting together IKEA furniture. Also a poem about someone making someone else late because they're clipping their nails, which is a very strong college roommate memory for me.

So, check it out, even if you're not married. I bet one of these poems will speak to you.
