Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa

5.0

somewhere between 4 and 5 stars but decided to round it up. i read the german translation which translates to "Cherry Blossoms and Red Beans" which is an interesting choice considering that red bean paste is virtually nonexistent here. the story itself was so simple and yet so heartfelt, i finished it in one sitting since it's a short one, and bawled through the last few chapters. it somehow felt like the literary equivalent of a blanket wrapped around your shoulders and a warm cup of tea put into your hands at the end of a long day, after a long time spent with a tired heart. remarkable.
