This was my favourite of the four Disney villains books that I've read. I think it is because it was mostly it's own story, something completely new. It took over 300 pages to reach the point where Gothel takes Rapunzel into the tower, so there's very little overlap with the Rapunzel tale.

Once again this is a story of the Odd sisters meddling in other people's lives that ends up creating the situation for the fairy tale we know to happen.

This story was much darker than the others, initially being set in the Dead Woods and involving a lot of killing and death, including that of children. I liked this darker take on the tale, it feels more appropriate for a villains tale and a bit more in line with the likes of the original Grimm fairy tales.
