Faking with Benefits
by Lily Gold
DID NOT FINISH
I was looking through my DNF list because sometimes there are books that are good, but you're just not in the mood for them. I decided to give this one another try, but Zack's voice sounding like Jamie from Outlander was an immediate turn-off. I know the author is British, but no thanks. I live close enough to hear this accent and slang all the time, and I don’t find it remotely attractive. Plus, all the nicknames Zack was using in the first few chapters, like "baby," "sweetheart," and "pet," weirded me out.
I didn't like Layla either. She came across as really whiny, stuck in a cycle of negativity that instantly put me off. She needs to pull herself together, get some therapy, and then try again. It’s not the end of the world if some random guys aren’t interested in you.
Then there's the fact that Luke was her old teacher. The idea of her dating her sophomore-year English teacher creeps me out and makes no sense given her backstory.
This book is officially staying in DNF heaven and never coming back.
