Heavy: An American Memoir by Kiese Laymon
4.0
This was such a wonderful book. Laymon wrote a book about his experiences with abuse, mental, physical and psychological--and how it ties in with our culture's idea of love. I think it was a great book to pick up after reading bell hooks' book "All About Love," as it ties the ideas up well. Laymon is such a beautiful writer. He made me reflect on my childhood, my relationships with everyone I've ever encountered, and who and how I want to be remembered as a mother, lover, colleague or friend. I cried at the end but I'm not sure if it's because of the day I had, or because I felt for the author's experiences with his mother. Either way, I really needed that cry.
