Normal People by Sally Rooney

5.0

I’ve read this book twice now and felt I was harsh during my first rating and have since boosted this to a five star read which was perhaps better the second time around. I love the vague ending and that it allows you as the reader to continue the story, seamlessly having all of your answers answered and none of them at the same time. I think it tends to romanticise a relationship which was incredibly faulty, which would have largely been resolved if they communicated with each other. But, it perfectly depicts the power dynamic within their relationship and how this shifts through their life stages. I seem to gravitate towards irish fiction and I do love Sally Rooney’s style. I think Normal People is just one of those books that you should read, especially if you’re in your twenties. Think it’ll be one that I come back to time and time again.
