I really wanted to love this but the first half felt like a summary from a history book - I understand the need to show Eugenides struggling and the repercussions of what happened but that portion of the book dragged for me. The action and development really started at around the 60% and I enjoyed the book much more. I didn’t particularly like the love confessions - they felt out of place without more buildup and interaction.
