The Ghosts of Belfast by Stuart Neville

4.0

agh i have such mixed feelings about this book. i was utterly thrilled with it until (spoilers) his confrontation with bull in the pit. right as he was about to die, with the gun to his head, plot armor intervened, saving fegan and ensuring that the story would continue its course to a (mostly) victorious end.

however! the twist at the end, making me wonder if he was going to commit suicide, was very interesting. i think that because it was captioned “one” i was on my toes in anticipation on whether fegan would end up dying and am still conflicted with how it ended.

overall though, great, gripping thriller set in during the events in northern ireland at the turn of the century. although i cannot take this book as a replacement for true knowledge on the historical events that occurred, i still do feel like i learned something too, which is a refreshing feeling. excited for more.
