Doktor Faustus. Das Leben des deutschen Tonsetzers Adrian Leverkühn erzählt von einem Freunde by Thomas Mann

4.0

Based on the Faust legend and set in the early 20th century the story centers on the work and life of Adrian Leverkühn, a composer who trades with the devil in order to compose brilliant genius like music.
Leverkühn's story is linked with Germany's history in the context of both world wars and the Nazi Regime. And it does it ever so well. In spite of a the sections on musical theory that went way over my head I became so attached to the story and the way it was told. Reading Mann is a struggle for me and I'm pretty sure it will remain that way, but it ist always so rewarding and worth it.
