Red Famine: Stalin's War on Ukraine, 1921-1933
by Anne Applebaum
This was a horrifically illuminating history of the genocidal man-made famine in Ukraine. I’ve read some seriously dark history, and this was one of the more awful books. I plan on reading more books about this in the future, specifically by Ukrainian authors, to get a more complete picture. This book is incredibly relevant to the current war on Ukraine as it provides information on how the Russian leaders, and their predecessor the Soviet Union leaders (also preceded by Tsarist Russia), have attempted to stamp out Ukrainian culture, including language, in order to take the land for themselves.
