A Conjuring of Light
by V.E. Schwab
Real quick, this is my favorite cover out of the series.
This book is by far the best in the series, but it still had flaws. We didn't find out about many of the characters' backstories; Kell, Lila, Rhy, Maxim, Emira, just to name a few. While I did like the extra perspectives, I feel like they were thrown in there and had little importance to the overall plot. For example; Nisa and Ned; why? I don't like Kell (still). He was kind of static and boring. While I like Alucard, it seemed as though he was there just to be... there. Rhy is one of my favorites, and I loved the perspective of him. Same with Holland. I wanted more from him and I was really pleased with how much we learned about him. Lila was okay, but she was one of those characters that we learned practically nothing about. Like, how did she lose her eye; an element of hers that we were always reminded of? There was a lot of that in this book; constant open-ended questions. The two main characters (Kell and Lila) barely developed too, and that bothers me.
The pacing was amazing in this book. Throughout the first two, I felt bored, and it dragged a lot. This book kept me constantly entertained, and the plot kept developing. I didn't like the antagonist Osaron that much, but I did like the destruction he caused. Also, the devastation that the characters felt in this book was great (well, not great, but well written and conveyed).
This series was good, but not amazing like some people made it out to be. I liked reading it but objectively, it was lacking.
