One thing I appreciate about these new graphic novels?
Despite being a relic from the 90s, it doesn't feel dated.
Sure, one can argue that if the kids had smartphones, they would be able to contact each other a lot easier, but when was the last time you saw a wolf work a smartphone that easily?
This one seems to have even more panels of body-horror-shapeshifting with accompanying gruesome onomatopoeia, but that does take away some of the appeal of fully becoming another animal.
Since this book focuses on our favorite nothlit, we can recapture the paradigm shift of the boy-trapped-in-hawk-body and the warring states of mind between fierce & impassionate predator and shy mousy boy, in heart-breaking graphic detail now!
Just holding out through all the drama for the unparalleled comedy of Ax discovering delicious food...some day.
