Turtles All the Way Down
by John Green
john green is back at it with a poignant and in your face look at anxiety/OCD and the storm of consequences to your relationships that accompany mental illness. i really wanted to love this book because i’m a hopeless devotee to John Green after the role TFIOS played in my adolescence, and because i love Aza so much and saw a piece of myself in her, as well as the touching and valuable advice her psychiatrist gives her to pull her out of her anxiety spirals, but the backstory about Pickett, the lizard, and the reward money just felt detached and distracting from Aza, as if it wasn’t really meant to be a part of her story. also *SPOILER* i was really disappointed that Davis and Aza ambiguously kinda didn’t end up together? but i guess that all comes back to the message of her instability touching everyone around her.
i still love JG and his writing and don’t regret reading this.
