The Summer of '98: A Qb Bad Boy Novel by Tay Marley

3.0

I read Tay's QB novel way back when and loved it. As a fellow Wattpad author, I respect her for getting this far and wish her all the luck for the future which is why I was happy to get accepted to read this book!

From what I remember reading from the first book, the story of Drayton's parents always interested me and overall, I think this story was very sweet. It is a quick read that would be great when you're lounging around a pool/on the beach.

What did I like?
1. Tay's writing is great. I have always liked the stuff she has written and I felt immersed in the world she created.
2. I think the characters she creates are fun. There are enough dynamics that make the characters feel relatable and interesting.
3. I think the ending was well done and leads beautifully into the original story whilst still being successful as a standalone.

On the other hand, I think the worst part of this was that it is definitely insta-love. I mean we know that ultimately they will be together but there was just nothing that made me think they had undeniable chemistry. Don't get me wrong, their relationship grew on me but it felt too perfect a lot of the time and I preferred his brother as a male lead.
I also hated Ellie's mother and felt like Ellkie forgave her too quickly for the way she behaved and it seemed convenient her Dad wanted to come back into her life after all this time.

The formatting of the book was askew - but that is an easy fixable issue.

Overall, the book was good. I would recommend for anyone who wants a super quick read when they're on holiday/vacation.

I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
