Elsa is a “bewilderingly obstinate” and frightfully intelligent seven-almost-eight year old and over the course of this novel I fell absolutely in love with her. Elsa is different and everyone knows different kids don’t have the easiest time at school, but at least Elsa has a superhero, her Granny, who is her best friend. Granny and Elsa live partly in the real world, and partly in their made up fantasy world, and the events in this story helps Elsa figure out how to live between the two. The real triumph of this story is the narration. It’s breathlessly written and it made me want to read on and on and on and on, only literally falling asleep with the book in my hand stopped me from finishing it each time I picked it up. I can’t wait for everyone I know to read this so we can all share in its loveliness!
