I really wanted to give this book a higher rating but the ending felt poorly paced and incongruous with the story that preceded. I think this is because it is a retelling of David Copperfield which, at times, flowed naturally and at other times felt forced. The real strength of the narrative is the depiction of the Appalachian mountains and the harrowing effects of the OxyContin scandal.
