The best part about this book was the gorgeous GORGEOUS (and I mean STUNNING) cover. I was drawn in by the cover art but unfortunately, the story didn't deliver and it was a real disappointment, given how much this book was all over the 'gram.
The story was set up for success. Dark romance with ex-boyfriend's dad, military, training for special ops. No wonder everyone was tremendously excited.
Where the wheels started coming off the wagon - the plot felt hollow, even though there was a lot going on. There wasn't a sturdiness to the plot; it felt distracted and meandering at points. There was her abuelita & her own romance history. There was Violet and Adam, then Violet and Kade, her training, her nemesis in her cohort, history with her parents ... it was a lot and it really detracted from Violet and Kade.
Which brings me to the fact that despite the spikes in smut with Violet & Kade, I didn't really feel the chemistry or the build up. It sort of just happened in a chapter and I was really confused where the attraction came from.
Then - there were references like "cold breath" - which happened multiple times and just made me feel like this book hadn't been properly reviewed.
So overall - not sold.
