Illuminae

First thing I need to say is that, Sci-fi genre isn’t my thing. I don’t have anything against it and the genre is definitely popular for good reason however I just don’t find interest or entertainment from the aspects that are Sci-fi e.g. Space and Science.
However with all that said I wanted to try the genre anyway, so this was my first science fiction book/trilogy and the reason I chose it was because of the hype and because many booktubers who also weren’t big sci-fi fans, had said they they still liked this book.
And this is a good book!!!
There were moments where I was disinterested but there was also many elements that I was invested in. I liked and didn’t predict the plot twists and the ending has definitely interested me in the next book.
The thing that stood out to me the most and made me like this book a lot was the format! This book is made up of interviews, emails and messages between characters, transmissions, inner core data and surveillance footage. This helped me engage to the story and helped me get through the book, if the format lacked these unique elements I don’t think I would of enjoyed it.
I do not regret reading this and I will continue with the series. This was a good introduction to sci-fi
