Big Daddy by Daisy Jane
4.0

HELLO DELICIOUS AUDIO!! A large age gap, forbidden romance where he takes care of her?! Say less. That’s my literary catnip. This was my first Daisy read, and I was so excited for this ALC. Bid Daddy is FULL of daddy energy, that’s for sure. This taboo romance is full of so much sass and banter, some deliciously erotic spice, and a surprising amount of heart. This was such a fun listen.

Winnie is fiercely independent, unapologetically sassy, and making ends meet in a way she never envisioned—selling feet pics online. It's unconventional, but it pays the bills, and she’s in a pretty rough situational financially without. That is, until her biggest client breaks things off because of his new girlfriend, leaving her financially stranded. Cue a meltdown—one that just so happens to be witnessed by Quincey, her best friend’s grumpy, overprotective father. Who just so happens to be super sexy and super rich. And determined to help save the day.

Known for his no-nonsense and domineering attitude (even his own daughter calls him a controlling ahole), Quincey’s come in and does what he does best- takes control. Concerned for Winnie’s well-being, he arranges therapy for her and even covers the cost. And he insists she quits footing round and work for him instead. Their argument over it is full of tension and yummy push-pull dynamics—which catalyzes their attraction (a bit of instalove vibes here, but they have met). Winnie is both frustrated and charmed by his gesture. So she agrees…and she also agrees to some other fun too- and so we begin a VERY spicy, forbidden dynamic.

The brat-dom vibes here create for some electric banter. And Quincey is tossing around his big daddy energy left and right- which Winnie find she kind of likes. He’s possessive, jealous, commanding, and oh so bossy. Fortunately, Winnie isn’t some blushing virgin and is ready for some fun and spicy times. Listen, this book could melt the paint off a wall with its heat- these two are FIRE. But it’s not just about the heat. Their relationship sizzles with emotional intimacy and dynamic chemistry. They challenge and support each other in really genuine ways. But as their bond deepens, outside pressures start to build—especially from Quincy's daughter, Brielle, who’s caught up in her own drama (I haven’t read her story yet, but she’s a bit of brat in this book…but I’m assuming Quincey isn’t painted well in hers). The tension between father and daughter adds real additional emotional stakes to the story, and making things complicated (and even more forbidden) for them both.

This story is so entertaining and steamy and packed with playful, taboo tension, but there’s also a softness to it, a gentleness to the romance as well. Quincey finds vitality and also learns to live a bit more loosely with Winnie, and Winnie finds not just financial security but emotional stability and safety with Quincey. The spice and the heartfelt moments blend together nicely. And we have just the right dash of drama and taboo edge to keep things interesting. My only qualm was that it was slightly too long (the drama felt too drawn out to still kind of end mostly unresolved until the epilogue sorta) and “Big Daddy” is waaaay over used. I knew I was getting into some Daddy themes (and this doesn’t have any age play) but the nickname was just used too much and started to feel a bit cringe after a while. But easy to move past, at least for me.

This duet audio was so fun and so well performed. And how cool that Daisy Jane herself narrates Winnie, so of course it’s perfectly curated to the character. She really captured the nuances of Winnie’s personality- her sass, her playfulness, but also her guarded vulnerability. Daisy’s performance is charming and flirty but also full of emotional range. And listen, Tor Thom was made to narrate characters with Daddy energy. The easy confidence in his voice paired with his baritone definitely gives his performance a gravitas just oozes command. And Quincy is DEFINITELY all about commanding. But he also brought some great vulnerability to Quincey as well, especially in dealing with his daughter. And the two had great vocal chemistry.
