Booktok let me down (again). It was fine. A story about teenagers overstepping safety and parental guidance to solve a mystery. As an adult, I wanted to force these kids to involve their parents! That’s my biggest pet peeve with all contemporary YA. This book fits firmly in the YA genre. It’s written for gen z. Modern reference, modern problems, modern solutions. 

There were a couple surprising twists. But they felt forced. One in particular about
the girl in the attic.
felt completely out of place. There’s no explanation for it and it was just there for shock value. 

Ultimately I just wasn’t wowed…
