Obviously a very good book. So many extremely detailed, well realised characters behaving pretty believably. Tonnes of twists and turns and satisfying conclusions. I just didn't love it.

I think my main issue is doing it on audiobook. Obviously it's a long book, but the audiobook was LONG. It took me 6 months to get through it. I also struggled a bit with the narrator, and I'm not sure whether I mean the narrator of the audiobook or the narrator in the book. Every time Monte Cristo does something, the book narrator is like "oh, isn't he incredible for having done that, he's so smart and handsome and dreamy." I'm not sure how much of that was the book itself and how much was the audiobook narrator - I think it was mainly due to the way the audiobook guy read those bits, but I've knocked a bit off the score regardless.
