Like many others who saw the musical first, I was really surprised and impressed by this book. I loved its political and philosophical depth, and I loved the strong sense of Elphaba’s character, which remained constant throughout the span of her life. No cliches were relied upon. Every character felt frustratingly human (including the Animals) and overall I thought this was a fantastic addition to the world of Oz.
