This sci-fi novel, partly set in Thailand, has got a lot going for it: some speculation forward on brain-computer technology and mind-to-mind or wireless brain communication (the author's end comments on where science actually is on these things are as startling as anything); the ethical questions about whether or not to release new technology to the masses and what good or evil may come of it; the very relevant matter of government security overreach; and some well written action that has you cranking the pages. I'd have given it a 5 but toward the end it really started to feel like a great Hollywood action movie with a few over-the-top combat moments. And indeed Paramount picked up the rights in 2013. I expect it will be much like the Jurassic Park book-to-movie, losing much of the thinking part in favor of the action. Ah well. This is part of a trilogy. Fun read.
