Happy Singles Day by Ann Marie Walker

3.0

This was a cute yet predictable little love story.
Uptight, workaholic, and professional organizer Paige finally decides to take a much needed vacation. Problem is, the bed and breakfast she rented out is owned by a grumpy, but hot, man named Lucas. The place is a cluttered mess and it rains the entire time on an island that has no cars. Paige was not happy.

I loved the protagonists references to F•R•I•E•N•D•S and references to the teenage mutant ninja turtles that I forgot I even knew. I also laughed at the Lizzie McGuire cartoon version of herself questioning her choices throughout the story. Paige’s best friend/assistant Sammy is a hilarious gay man who always had me laughing. I also loved the playful negotiations throughout the book between all characters and the fresh starts they’d have to keep having.

I do need to file a grievance with one thing. Paige is a vegetarian but ate a sausage pizza by picking the sausage off…. No. This would not happen. Sure, everyone is different and maybe some vegetarians are okay with meat juices pouring all of their pizzas, but I am not one of those vegetarians.

I enjoyed the book but didn’t love it. And maybe I would have given a 3.5 but the epilogue ruined it for me. Just too much rushing and perfectness for a story that was supposed to be about love being more important than perfectness and order.
