Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
3.5
emotional lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

First of all, no one told me how this book ended and I take issue with calling it cozy and lighthearted when it ends with
major character death
.

This is a book I either would've loved or hated as a kid. The narrator definitely brought some silliness to the (what I assume to be) page long speeches Anne went on. I had some good chuckles and some moments of annoyance. I can see how it got adapted into TV since the book is very episodic. Anne gets into some shenanigan, she gets in trouble, she cries, she gets forgiven, wash and repeat.

It's not intentional but I did love the representation of sapphic girlhood. Anne fearing that her best friend will get married to a man and leave her was just *chef's kiss*
