Hang The Moon by Jeannette Walls
3.0

I’ve been avoiding writing this review because of my mixed feelings about this book. It had so much potential to be a rich, educational historical fiction where you fall in love with the characters and get deeply lost in the plot. I have to give it 3.5 stars rounded down because, disappointingly, it just was not any of those things. It was extremely action packed, which made for a compelling read. The overall caliber of writing just wasn’t very high. Various plot points seemed unbelievable from a historic accuracy standpoint (the Duke hiring his 20-year-old unmarried daughter to drive around alone collecting rent monies, for example). There were so many characters, I lost the thread a bit by the time they were having the shoot out at the hospital. Overall, the author pulled me back in and I enjoyed the conclusion, but this just was not a satisfying read.
