Chemistry for Breakfast: The Amazing Science of Everyday Life by Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim

5.0

I never thought I'd be able to say "rollicking fun" about a chemistry book, but there's a first time for everything. :) Nguyen-Kim infuses her bright personality and passion into her writing and you can almost hear her bouncing along with you throughout her daily routines. I struggled a lot in chemistry, but I like to think if I had the help of someone as passionate and brilliant as Nguyen-Kim studying with/helping me, things would have at least felt a little different in school. :) This book is relatable, accessible, fun, witty, and I can see myself rereading it for pleasure. There are charming drawings, illustrations, and diagrams scattered throughout the book to make it even more engaging.

As a bonus, Nguyen-Kim includes her molten lava cake recipe (she calls it fondant au chocolat, since she's from the other side of the Atlantic), and delves into the chemistry of baking and chocolate, which I was utterly swept away by, as a person that loves food and cooking. I would love if she did a book just about food chemistry!

Highly recommend this title!
