Cocaine Nights by J.G. Ballard
4.0
I finished Cocaine Nights just before going on a slightly out of character holiday to a place very much like the ones in the novel. I enjoyed exploring with the ideas from Cocaine Nights ringing in my brain. It's a pretty eerily prescient novel that probably has no chance of existing these days given the appearance of the internet (and the way everyone seems to be running in the opposite direction to a future free of work). Charles arrives in Estrella de Mar to try to figure out why his brother Frank, has confessed to a multiple murder. He's not the most effective investigator but somehow he stumbles into an attractive and dangerous underbelly to the resort, and eventually, he has to decide on whether to go all in, or blow the whole thing wide open.
