So beautiful, whimsical, and enchanting. I've had so few successful reads so far this year (not just 5 stars, but even 4s have eluded me), so I just really need to gush about something that not only hit, but got me crying and feeling all gooey inside.

I love all of the different types of fae, from creepy little things with needles for nails, to gorgeous royals with bewitching smiles. The standout aspect though was definitely Emily and Wendell's relationship, obviously. Their banter is some of the best, with such soft, and emotional moments, and thankfully, there's no insta-love here. I mean, Emily doesn't even fully realize that she likes Wendell in a friendly way (she acts like she hates him completely, even though her actions speak otherwise lmao), let alone anything romantic. I also just really appreciate that the actual progression of their romance, even though it's fairly implicit by the end that they're in love with each other, is quite slow. They only shared a kiss. It moved me to tears regardless (I cried a bit too much due to all of the mushy, sweet moments). It's just so refreshing after the abundance of books that have the characters sleeping together by page 5, no shame to anyone who likes that, I just usually get bored by too many sex scenes, especially when I'm not yet attached to the characters or their relationships.
