the mystery was enough to keep me reading, but I couldn’t tell if it was the author or the main character who was so racist against Indian people. The tone toward India and Indian people was that of disdain, heavily relying on stereotypical tropes to illustrate the dislike. Having read other Dan Simmons I do not think that this is his best work. As far as horror goes, I was expecting to be more scared, but this book at most was slightly stressful.
