The Day We Met by Rowan Coleman

5.0

Wonderful!!! This was my first read by Rowan Coleman and I will definitely be reading many more. This is the story of Claire who is suffering from early onset Alzheimer's disease. Claire is married to a younger man, Greg and has a young daughter Esther. She also has a 21 year old daughter Caitlin who she raised alone. Claire's mother, Ruth has come to live with the family to help care for Claire. Claire keeps a memory book where she and all of the family members write their memories so Claire can read them when she can no longer remember and so they can read them when she is no longer with them. The disease for Claire is progressing unusually quickly.

I loved seeing the relationship between each family member and Claire evolve. She seems to forget Greg the most which is particularly hard on him. My favorite character is Caitlin who is dealing with her own problems and needs her mom to be present to give her advice. The child-like relationship that Claire develops with Esther is endearing. This is a story about love that lasts no matter what.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing, Ballantine for a copy of this book to review.
