Heart of a Dog
by Mikhail Bulgakov
Maybe I lack the context to appreciate this book enough. But it surely wasn't as fun. I couldn't enjoy it as a book that talks about what being a human entails, as a book about the relationship between a man and his creator such as Frankenstein. Nor could I enjoy it as a satire.
Nevertheless, it was somehow thought-provoking. Why a dog to begin with? I couldn't understand the professor's issue with socialism. He seemed like a hypocrite. It didn't seem like a well thought criticism.
One thought I think I got from the book and liked is the idea that some people from very poor backgrounds use that as an excuse for their behaviors, just like sharik.
