Imposter by Tate James

5.0

Oh My Goodness words cannot describe how much I loved this book... but I'm gonna try to anyways!
Let me just start by saying Tate James is an amazing author, like seriously one of my favorites. I love her Kit Davenport series and anything she writes with CM Stunich is great, so I was super eager to get my hands on this book. It was originally supposed to be part of Once Upon A Harem, but I am so freaking happy she decided to make it a trilogy!!!

My expectations for Imposter were pretty high given my love for all of Tate's other books. This fairytale retelling of the Frog Prince sounded interesting to say the least, but after I finished I can safely say that any previous expectations I had were completely blown away.

Rybet is such a great character with a big heart and even bigger beliefs. She knows exactly how she feels and is pretty stubborn about changing her mind. After entering the trials on accident while trying to save a young boy, Rybet is trapped, bound by an oath to remain in the trials until death or marriage. While she makes her distain for the three princes and the royal family very clear throughout the book, she grows close to the three men in charge of the first stage of the trials.

Lee, Ty, and Zan are teachers in the trials who all become close to Rybet, or Lady Callaluna who she is pretending to be. She becomes torn between her new friends and her survival, trying to win the trials. I really enjoyed the guys' characters. They all have specific interests that are essential to the trials and the story giving us a chance to get to know them more thoroughly.

I also really loved the larger plot playing in the background of the trials. The world Rybet lives in is dying, has been ever since the queen was killed and her daughter disappeared. The royals are supposed to have magic, but it appears that the current king and queen aren't living up to the expectations of the land. There is corruption and evil lurking behind the trials and I can't wait to learn more and watch everything play out.

This book did end on a cliffhanger..... like a seriously huge are you kidding me I hate you (not really still love you) kind of cliffhanger that left me reeling. I literally just sat there processing for a few minutes after finishing because wow. I need need need the next book like yesterday!

But despite this cliffhanger I am still crazy for this book. Imposter is such an amazing story with a fantastic plot and characters with lots of depth. Tate James has done it again and I am very eager to see where this series will take us!
