Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men
by Caroline Criado Pérez
A quick, fascinating, sad, and enjoyable read. The book is about data-driven disadvantages of women. The author describes the issues in a very practical, easy to understand, and well-researched way. Caroline Pérez is compassionate and passionate, clear and consequential, and I am very grateful for the way this book expanded my perspective.
Although the book was mainly about defining, establishing, and clarifying women's issues, she also discussed historically successful remedies to some of the problems, or explored possible potentials.
Some were humorously inapplicable- "In fact, the best job-creation programme could simply be the introduction of universal childcare in every country in the world."
Some were unquestionably beneficial- "Astrid Linder ... is fighting to make anthropometrically correct female crash dummies a legal requirement"
But most discussed remedies were muddy, and subject to much variance of opinion. I think this was caused by the complex nature of the issues. Overall, it seems better to explore solutions and risk significant error than to explore only the problems and then get paralyzed.
Praise God for His love and tenderness towards women (and all people), as well as His justice. I am grateful for the knowledge in this book and also for the confidence and comfort of the Lord.
