Billy Summers by Stephen King

4.0

I loved this one. It was reminiscent of the Mr. Mercedes series which is, to date, my favorite of King’s. I love how, in this one, the protagonist muses on the nature of morality—of what it means to be a “good” or “bad” person. It’s perfectly plotted, which is no surprise because plotting and pacing are King’s skills. The voice is typical King, and I appreciate the readability and the earned emotion it evokes. I took a star off because there was so much fatphobic language, especially early on, that I almost quit it. The sizeism continues, though lessens, throughout. It wasn’t necessary for the plot, and I wish it weren’t there.
