The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

5.0

The Song of Achilles retells the story of the Trojan War and Greece’s greatest hero through Patroclus’ eyes. Madeline Miller rewrites this classic tale of Achilles and Patroclus and their undying love for each other in a breathtaking way.

The prose is simply elegant and poetic. This novel is filled with mythological facts and characters, shedding new light on this ancient story. Miller brought to life the gods, nymphs, and war legends in a masterfully crafted narrative. She was able to humanize these mythical beings in such a way to make them seem authentic, weak, and vulnerable. We have on one hand the desperate and greedy men, and on the other, the petty and proud gods.

Madeline Miller paints the mythical scenes of this tale in blood, sacrifice, suffering, love, and pain. With so many character development and historical details in her book, she reconceives the most magical and enchanting ancient Greece journey.
