My review of An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.
Laia’s brother has been arrested for treason by the Empire that occupies her home. Now she must join the rebellion and enter into the Empire’s elite and horrible war college as a slave to gather information in exchange for a chance to save her brother. While there she meets Elias, a most unwilling soldier who longs to get out, but has a destiny of his own to fulfill.
Sort of a forbidden romance enemies-to-lovers that is secondary to the plot which centers on characters who are trying to save those they love and themselves. There are trials and obstacles, and both characters suffer from traumatic situations. This book sucked me in with its high stakes plot and beautiful characters.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me.
10/10 would recommend.
Highly recommend for those who like Non-Eurocentric fantasy, trials fantasy like Powerless or Hunger Games, fantasy with prophecies.
🌙 high stakes trials
🌙 Set up for enemies-to-lovers/forbidden romance
🌙 Love triangle
🌙 Slow burn
🌙 Espionage
🌙 Secondary character friendships
🌙 Middle Eastern vibes
TW: violence, sa, mentions of r*pe, physical abuse, war
