I haven’t read a Nicholas Sparks book since high school and I guess at that age I didn’t pick up on how conservative his writing is. Lots of references to religion, military, damsel in distress narrative with a boy who saves the day. He goes into great detail describing a female perspective of pregnancy and self-loathing but then skims over the labor and birth. The story itself was heartwarming enough for me to finish it but predictable and hard to get past the tone.
Graphic: Body shaming, Cancer, Death, Fatphobia, Grief, Pregnancy
