This was surprisingly excellent! I wouldn't have picked it up on my own, but tried it because of a recommendation, and I'm really glad I did.
While the writing style is somewhat simple and the pace is quick, the story thoroughly pulled me in and made me want to keep picking up the book to find out what happens next. Reminded me of the type of book I would've loved in high school so felt nostalgic in a way. I also wasn't expecting the different points of view from all the other lady characters to crop up, but that really brought the story to another level. This is also an example of the love triangle trope done well! Fantastic plot twist too.
And the way the story unfolded throughout was interesting so I wasn't bored anticipating or trying to guess what the plot twist would be. I'm so looking forward to the sequel, and I don't feel that way about a lot of books, even when left on a cliff hanger.
Pleased to have read a fantasy story that incorporates faeries in the way that I love too - kind of creepy, with distorted yet beautiful features, and an interesting background with the humans of the world.
Many books I've read lately have started off strong but then lag at some point, but I can happily say that this one only continued to get more and more intriguing. Finally a fantasy five star read!
