Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke And Other Misfortunes by Eric LaRocca

3.0

Maybe this book was overhyped, and thats why i walked away feeling so left down.

The titular story is a pretty invigorating read. For their flaws, eric is amazing at writing queer horror. The story felt like a dark twist on the obsessive escalation of love-starved LGBT people.

The second was an immense letdown. A cosmic religious horror, its main twist takes a page from the murder house season of AHS. While rife with rich imagery, the ending left me feeling unfulfilled and confused.

The final entry is a short but intriguing story. It didnt read like a horror, and felt more like a suspense story. It serves as a nice, if not ham-fisted, story about the main character’s obsessive desire to maintain appearances at any cost.

This is the second if Eric’s books that i’ve read, the first being You’ve Lost A Lot of Blood. Overall, i think this collection is more thematically inconsistent and qualitatively disappointing. Not a bad read, but a letdown for sure.
