I HATED Frankie, performative paganism bugs the hell out of me! Not that the whole Birds legend was great, but at least that was to keep people from committing serious crimes, not to make money. The entire new age pseudo-paganism is BS, in my opinion. I found Frankie so irritating I was raging aloud about her while listening to the book!
That being said, since she was the villain, I assume that's how you were supposed to feel about her. Some other characters weren't so much loveable as at least sympathetic.
I did enjoy the twists and turns, it wasn't a super predictable book. Just very aggravating, about injustice, sexism, classism, etc. Which I assume was part of the message of the book. Rich people can get away with literal murder.
