A Light Most Hateful
by Hailey Piper
Not terrible, not stunning. Came off heavy-handed and, at times, less exposition would've been better. I don't understand why Christmas was created. They don't serve a clear purpose to Sunflower. I'm also confused about what happened with the essentially faceless boyfriend, Roy. It does come across like a dream, in that the horror elements do not feel cohesive.
I think this book would have been more effective with shorter, less frequent periods of introspection from our protagonist. These often led us in the wrong direction about what was happening while throwing in anxious attempts at philosophizing that were too frequent and lengthy to help the narrative.
2.5 rounded up for Christmas, who didn't really make sense but did make me smile.
