Grave Goods by Ariana Franklin

It seems almost inevitable that this series would start to slip a bit, but I'm a little disappointed at the specific WAY it's slipping. The author seems to be determined to focus on "real" historical mysteries -- in this case the legend of King Arthur. This leads to quite a bit of tedious maundering about the magic of Avalon, Arthur, Excalibur, etc. -- which is diametrically opposed to the best thing about the series, the proto-scientific mindset.

I'm also losing patience with the large number of Victorian-era woman-in-jeopardy scenes: Adelia in the dark woods, Adelia in a dark cellar, Adelia in a dark graveyard, etc. On the other hand, the depiction of Henry Plantagenet's legal reforms is vivid and surprisingly entertaining.
