I remember reading this one some 20 years ago and thinking it was ok with some good character dialogue but on this reread, I see how flawed and in some moments just unrealistic.

What I thought was a friend's to lovers trope, really isn't because Quinn and Nick are a hard pill to swallow as 'lovers' , I see that now. Neither one truly longed or wanted the other so it's not like there was a rhyme or reason for them to be a couple other than how Cruise set it up and badly.

I mean the books is literally Quinn choosing to rescue a dog and her boyfriend not only saying no but choosing to ignore her and against her back makes a decision to take the dog to a pound, thus opening Quinn's eyes to a lot and the main thing that she can't be in a relationship with him anymore, so she tells him they'll over and she moves out starting a chain of events that makes me want to shake everyone.

On top of that, I find I had a lot of problems with these characters. I didn't know much at my late teens or early 20's, especially about men and dating, but by my 30's, I knew who I was and I had a better understanding of what I was willing to put up with in and out of a relationship and so I'm unclear how most of these characters, mostly Quinn, are either dense, egotistical, childish, obnoxious, overbearing, and sometimes down right insensitive or wimpy.

Not my favorite of Cruise's work as I don't reread this one often compared to the others but I always had a problem with the Nick, Bill, Quinn angle and some 20 yrs later, I have a definite answer for myself as to why.
