clawfoot 's review for:
The Broken Kingdoms
by N.K. Jemisin
I enjoyed this one as much as I did the first. I think it was even a smidge better-written -- there was less world-building, at least, and less info-dumping. That's pretty expected for the second book in the triology, but I appreciated it anyway.
What I liked about this one was that even though the world and story were both fantastic, they were also both believable (given the conceits of the story). I loved the city of Shadow, with its multitude of godlings and magic thick on the ground. I also liked the plot, which, given the world, made so much sense. It was also nice to finally get a bit of insight into the Three's history, and Itempas' actions and reasons. Reasons, mind you -- not excuses. It was nice to feel that distinction.
I'm looking forward to the third book.
