I read this really fast, because I enjoyed certain elements of the book.
The relationship between Julian and Malina moved way too fast when he was really just being nice to her? Like girl bare minimum. Then the sex scenes were very strangely placed.
Also some problematic language and scenes that people have pointed out like (paraphrasing) not SAing the slaves so they sell for more… And there have definitely been some Game of Thrones vibes with some SA/sexual acts just for fun, such as the throne room scene with the king. There are ways to show that characters are shitty people without assaulting women.
I think it could’ve been better if the author built her own world entirely instead of trying to use Roman as a base. And… skipped the slavery.
So I originally had thought that I would keep reading this series to find out more what happens, but I don’t know that I care enough now that I’ve finished the first book.
