I absolutely loved the London Calling series, so I was very excited for the Material World series. However, this book is very British in a Britishy way that doesn't really translate to Americans. There is a lot of talk about dialect, which Americans don't really know, and geography that some might, but I don't. But, the biggest issue is with the plot. Sam pretends to have amnesia, so his boss Jonathan won't fire him and his entire branch of bed and bath supply store staff. And then, they fall in love even though they both very much don't like each other. While the audiobook narrator translates the accents spectacularly, the story can't be saved. 3/5 stars
