To be totally honest- Broken Country was nothing like I expected. I picked it up knowing nothing but the booksta hype, & I finished it in a single day.
At just over 300 pages with short, easy to binge chapters, this story moves with the energy of a thriller but carries the emotional weight of a literary family drama. It's gorgeously written, deeply character-driven, & transcends genre. It's part romance, part mystery, part historical fiction, & 100% an emotional rollercoaster.
It’s told in a single POV, which was compelling, though I wished we got more depth from the supporting characters-the lack of emotional connection made parts of the story feel slightly distant. Still, the slow reveal of the mystery had me totally invested. If you’re on the fence about this one, I’d say it’s worth the read!
