kamross 's review for:
Pestilence
by Laura Thalassa
dark
sad
slow-paced
Loveable characters:
No
Honestly, 1 star reviews are not my thing. But considering the fact that I almost DNF'ed this, many times - I don't think I can give it any more than that. I even marked it as DNF at one time, and I only pushed through because I was SO close and the library was closed, so I couldn't get my next read yet.
This book was just not for me. I got the ick SO many times.First kiss right after she threw up? Gross. Explaining in gory detail how he doesn't have a nose, or his charred stump of a body? Gross. I can handle blood and gore, but I can't keep thinking the love interest is handsome when he has half a face half the time. And don't even get me started on the whole gross ambience surrounding them all the time.
Speaking of characters, these were just not it. Pestilence (which, I cannot STAND how long she called him that - it was weird) was boring and flat. The romance was not believable or shippable. They had no chemistry at all - I felt nothing but ick during the intimate parts.
Honestly the only reason this deserves a star at all is because the premise is interesting. Was it well done? Not at all.
This is the second book I've tried reading by this author, and that one had big deal breakers for me too. I don't think I'll be reading anything else by this author.
