Who Thought This Was a Good Idea?: And Other Questions You Should Have Answers to When You Work in the White House by Alyssa Mastromonaco, Lauren Oyler
4.0
I generally love these kinds of books, this one was no exception. I enjoyed the "behind the scenes" insights as to what it's like working for a president, in the White House and on the campaign trail. I assumed life is as hectic as you can imagine, and Alyssa presents some strong evidence to support that assumption. I enjoyed her self-deprecating humor and consistent checks on her own privilege with heaping doses of "could not have done it without the X, Y, and Z other people". I also particularly enjoyed that she wrote it specifically for women, not that men wouldn't get a good deal of enjoyment from the book as well, who are interested in a career in politics.
I got a little lost in some of the stories, as it wasn't written in chronological order. This usually doesn't impact my enjoyment of the read, but it was a little hard to keep straight where she was in her career / Obama's presidency.
